Lorraine Farrell Airey ’72
Field Hockey, Basketball, Tennis
Lorraine Farrell Airey was a dedicated three-sport athlete. Like her sisters, she was part of the winning tradition of women’s athletic teams while at OCC. She participated in sports programs at OCC during formative years in women’s athletics and she did not have the opportunity to compete in the Garden State Athletic Conference and the NJCAA programs. Based on her motivational and leadership skills, each team she performed on competed at the highest level. A former coach described her as a “coach’s dream” athlete. Lorraine earned a physical education & health degree at Kean University and an MA in Administration and Supervision from New Jersey City University and is currently the principal at Southern Regional Middle School, Manahawkin. She is a former coach in the sports of field hockey, gymnastics, and track and field. Lorraine resides in Point Pleasant with her husband, Richard.
Barbara Farrell Meyer ’77
Field Hockey, Basketball
Barbara Farrell Meyer was an outstanding two-sport athlete who played field hockey and basketball. During her two years at OCC, the field hockey team won the Garden State Athletic Conference both seasons. Described by her coach as a highly aggressive, very strong and highly skilled athlete, she played a major part in the 1975 team winning the GSAC title, the Region XIX Tournament, and finishing second at the NJCAA National Tournament. As the team’s leading scorer for the season, she was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team. The 1976 team won the GSAC title and came in second at the Region XIX Tournament. During the same year, she made All-GSAC, All-Region, and All-Tournament Teams. She was also awarded the Most Valuable Player by her coach for her winning attitude and ability on the field. Although field hockey was her strongest sport, Barbara also excelled on the basketball court as an outstanding foul shooter. In 1975-76 the team won GSAC the Region XIX Tournament and finished 14th in the NJCAA Tournament. In 1976-77, the talented team won the GSAC but finished second at the Region XIX Tournament. She was awarded the Patrick Carroll Award for academic and athletic achievements in 1977. Today, Barbara is a physical education teacher at Veterans Middle School in Brick, NJ. She resides in Toms River with her husband, John.
Eunice Farrell Pschorr ’70

Eunice Farrell Pschorr was an outstanding four-sport athlete and a team leader. She played on strong teams that competed against many four-year colleges. While attending OCC during formative years in women’s athletics, she did not have the opportunity to compete in the Garden State Athletic Conference and the NJCAA programs. As a member of the 1969 women’s basketball team, she was a key player in the most successful athletic team in the short history of the college. Due to her leadership skills and athletic ability, she was described by her former coach as “part of the foundation of the women’s athletic program at OCC.” Along with a team of high-caliber, talented women athletes, Eunice helped pave the way for an equal opportunity for women in the OCC athletic program. Eunice recently retired from a 26-year career in education. Most recently, she was the assistant principal at Southern Regional High School, Manahawkin, but began as a physical education teacher after earning her degree at Kean University. She also earned a master’s degree from New Jersey City University. Currently, she is an adjunct professor at OCC. She resides in Toms River with her husband, Eric.
Cynthia Patton Stout ’90
Swimming, Softball
Cynthia (Cindy) Patton Stout represented Ocean County College athletically in two sports, swimming and softball. As a swimmer Cindy was a two-time Northeast Region Champion and a five-time National Junior College Athletic Association finalist. In 1989 Cindy earned All-American status and was designated MVP for the OCC team. She was also a member of the record setting 800 yard freestyle relay team, which still stands today. As a softball player, Cindy was a utility player with most time spent either pitching or playing outfield. After completing her degree at OCC, she transferred to Rider University where she continued her competitive swimming career. Today, Cindy teaches business administration at Central Regional High School where she serves as swim coach. Along with her husband, Steve, Cindy began the Berkeley Township Recreation competitive summer swim team whose home base is the OCC pool. Cindy resides in Whiting with her husband and five-year-old daughter, Karleigh.

Hy Mittleberg began his teaching and coaching career at Ocean County College in 1972 after gaining experience and an affection for both professions at a New York City inner-city school. Within a few years of Hy becoming cross country coach, the OCC team had an undefeated season, won the Garden State Athletic Conference, and were Regional Champions for two consecutive years. During his nine-year tenure as coach, he took many of his athletes to Cross Country National Championships where several of the team members won All-American awards. In 1978, six members of the team participated in the National NJNCAA Marathon Championships held in Michigan. All six ran 26-plus miles and finished under three hours placing sixth in the championship meet. As OCC swim coach from 1974-77, Hy led the team to two Regional championships with the women’s team placing 10th and the men’s team placing 9th in the nation. From 1974-78, Hy served as assistant coach of the OCC wrestling team which he helped garner three winning seasons. He maintains contact with many of his former athletes and their families and takes great pleasure in hearing their success stories. Hy is a 35-year career as a Professor in the OCC Department of Health and Human Performance. He resides in Brick with his wife, Megina.

Kerrie Haskamp Farkas '90
Swimming
Kerrie Haskamp Farkas was a National’s qualifier on the OCC swim team both of her years at OCC. Competing at the 1989 and 1990 Northeast District Regional Championships, she earned a combined total of three gold medals in the 500 freestyle, the 200 backstroke, and the 100 backstroke; two silver medals in the 200IM and the 200 medley relay; and one bronze medal in the 200 freestyle relay. At the 1990 Nationals, she was a medal winner in the 200 backstroke. Kerrie is a former record holder as part of the 200 medley relay. She was named OCC Outstanding Female Student Athlete of the Year for 1989-90. After earning her Ph.D. at Kent State University in 2003, Kerrie took a position with Millersville University, PA, as Assistant Professor of English where she also serves as the Director of the Center for Public Scholarship. She resides in Gordonville, PA, with her husband, Scott, and their two children, Dimitry aged six, and Kayla who is five years old.
Rene Roncin Nani ’79
Field Hockey, Track & Field
Rene Roncin Nani excelled in both track and field and field hockey during her two years at OCC. In 1978 and 1979, she won the Region XIX championship in both the 200 and 400 meters and advanced to the National championships both years. In her second season, she placed ninth in the 200 meters and seventh in the 400 meters competition. As a field hockey player in 1978, she played right inner and her team advanced to the Region XIX finals. After completing her degree at OCC, she transferred to West Virginia University on a track scholarship, where she competed for the track and field hockey teams. Today she is a physical education teacher at Toms River High School North. She was a track and field coach at Toms River High School South for eight years. Rene resides in Lanoka Harbor with her husband, Bob, and their children, Ryan, 21, and Rachel, 19.
Malcom Reed ’00
Basketball
Malcom Reed was a team leader on and off the basketball court at OCC. In spite of challenges in his personal life, he excelled academically and athletically. During his two years on the basketball team, he earned first team All Garden State Athletic Conference and All Region XIX honors. In addition, he was named Most Valuable Player. Malcom was awarded an athletic scholarship to the University of West Virginia Tech. After graduation, he was chosen to compete in the summer league of the Philadelphia Sixers. He went on to tour with the Harlem Globetrotters for one year and then spent another year playing minor league basketball for the NBA. Today, Malcom is the president of D3 Community Outreach, Inc. a non-profit organization which helps disadvantaged youths. He resides in Durham, North Carolina.
Denise Stusnick Rosetto ’77
Basketball, Field Hockey, Tennis
Denise Stusnick Rosetto was a dedicated three-sport athlete during her two years at OCC. She was an accomplished player in field hockey, basketball and tennis. During her freshman year, Denise earned All Conference and All Region honors in field hockey and basketball. In her first season, the tennis team won the Garden State Athletic Conference and she was a member of the team that played in the National Championship game in both field hockey and basketball. During her sophomore year, again the tennis team won the Garden State Athletic Conference and the field hockey and basketball teams both played in the finals of the Region XIX Tournament. Again, she earned All Conference and All Region XIX honors for her level of play in field hockey and basketball. In 1977, she was selected OCC Athlete of the Year. Denise was awarded an athletic scholarship in field hockey and basketball at Catawba College. Today, she is the owner of H & D Demolition and Carting. Denise resides in Seaside Park with her significant other, Michael Clayton, and four children Vince Rosetto, 23, Jennifer Rosetto, 22, Kali Clayton, 10, and Damon Clayton, 8.
Danielle Riebe Rosinski ’94
Basketball
Danielle Riebe Rosinski was an outstanding basketball player both years she attended OCC. As a freshman, she was named Most Valuable Player making a major contribution to the team’s 21-5 record. She averaged 18.4 points a game. She led OCC to the Garden State Athletic Conference and Region XIX championships. The team placed third in the semi-finals at Nationals where Danielle was selected Most Talented Player. During her sophomore year, she received recognition at the NJ Collegiate Basketball Coaches Association Dinner. Again, she led the team to GSAC and Region XIX championships placing fourth in Nationals and was selected to play in the All Star game. Danielle holds impressive statistics: She was fourth in the nation for team total points with a 71.8 average; seventh in the nation for team defense at 58.3 points; and her percentage for team free-throws was sixth in the nation at 58.8%. Today, she is works for the New Jersey State Police, Homeland Security Branch, as a computer analyst . She resides in Matawan with her husband, Larry, and seven year old son, Jake.
1985 National Championship
Women’s Field Hockey Team
Team of Distinction
In 1985, the OCC Women’s Field Hockey Team traveled to Burlington, Vermont to compete in the National Junior College Championship. The team had lost three times in previous years for the national crown, twice in overtime. The season started with a couple of strong wins and then a loss to Camden Community College, a school that the coach said was going to be the one to beat in order to win the Regional’s. It was a 1 to 0 loss. The team recovered well and did not lose another game, facing off with Camden again, this time for the Region XIX championship, defeating them 7 to 2.
At the semi-finals, the team defeated Essex College of Maryland 1-0 and advanced into the finals against Becker College of Mass., an undefeated team and a favorite to take the national title. Neither team was able to score in regulation time despite some close calls. The Vikings battled Becker to a scoreless tie after 70 minutes of regulation halves, two 10 minute overtimes and a first round penalty stroke which ended in a 2-2 draw. In the second set of penalty strokes, OCC won 4-3. This was the first national title won by Ocean County College in any sport and for Coach Sue Stuznick her first in her 17-year career coaching field hockey. Several members of her squad were named to the All Tournament team. Coach Stuznick was named Coach of the Year. That season made history for OCC making it worthy of national recognition.

2011 Inductees
Linda Friggle
Soccer: 1994-1995
Lynda Friggle was a standout soccer player at OCC, where she enrolled after graduating from Manchester High School. Friggle initially attended OCC part-time, then switched to full-time so she would be eligible to join the Vikings soccer team. Friggle’s athletic accolades at OCC include, in 1995: All-American Honorable Mention, NJCAA All-Conference Team, NJCAA All-Region First Team, NJCAA All-Tournament Team, Outstanding Student Athlete, and Team Co-MVP. The College also honored Friggle by creating the “Lynda M. Friggle Courage Award.” After earning her associate degree, Friggle attended William Paterson University, and continued to shine in soccer. She was named to the All-NJAC and All-State First Teams in 1996, and, that same year, was recognized as the University’s student-athlete of the year. Friggle graduated from William Paterson in 1999. For the past seven years, she has worked as a case manager for the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities. This May, she was named Professional of the Year by The ARC of Ocean County. Friggle, a Bayville resident, has two children, Chelsey Friggle, 19, and Thatcher Friggle Pero, 5. Chelsey is currently a student at OCC, and is following in her mother’s footsteps as a member of Vikings soccer team. After Chelsey graduated high school last year, Friggle returned to competing in soccer.
Rene Martinez
Softball, Swimming: 1991-1993
As an OCC student-athlete, Rene Martinez competed for both the swim team and softball team. She twice qualified for the NJCAA National Championships in three individual swimming events, and, in 1992, she was named an All-American, and ranked among the top 16 junior college swimmers nationwide for the 100-yard backstroke. That same year, the OCC women’s swim team captured the Northeast Junior College and Diving Championship. Martinez played second base and outfield for the Vikings softball team, which she captained her second year on the team. After OCC, Martinez earned a dual degree from The College of New Jersey, where she was a member of the swim team. Soon after, Martinez began teaching and coaching at Brick Township High School, while also pursuing a master’s degree at Jersey City University. Martinez – a former executive board member and secretary for the OCC Alumni Association – married husband Roberto in 2001, and they relocated to North Carolina, where she began teaching and coaching. She was promoted to assistant principal, a position she held until she and her family moved to Hawaii. Martinez began a doctoral program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and received her PhD in Education last August. Rene and Roberto now live in Florida with their son Luis, 7. They enjoy many outdoor athletics activities, including triathlons and marathons.
Leonard Anen - Coach
Basketball: 1989-2001
Former OCC girls basketball coach Leonard Anen grew up in Point Pleasant Beach and graduated from Point Pleasant Beach High School, where he had been a three-sport athlete. After earning a degree from the College of Emporia in Kansas, Anen returned to New Jersey and enrolled at Georgian Court University to pursue a teaching degree. Anen worked in the Lakewood school system for 40 years, and coached middle school boys basketball for a five-year stretch, during which the team compiled a record of 75-10. He was later named head coach of the OCC women’s basketball team, a position he held for 11 years. During his tenure as an OCC coach, Anen’s son Stephen compiled statistics, son Jeff filmed games, assistant Kevin McCormick worked tirelessly to recruit, and Larry Hartmeyer kept the book at all games. Anen fondly remembers all the players and their families working tirelessly “to make our women’s basketball team so successful.” Following his time at the helm of the OCC women’s basketball program, Anen coached at Georgian Court and Lakewood High School. He currently resides in Pine Beach with wife Kathleen and his two step-daughters, Rebecka and Patrisha, and he and son Chris – one of four sons – coach together in the Barnegat recreational boys basketball league.
Peggy M. Graham Matthews
Soccer: 1994-1998
Margaret (Peggy) M. Graham Matthews enjoyed an illustrious run as a coach for the OCC women’s soccer team. She helped steer the Vikings to a 69-9 record from 1994 to 1998, and was at the helm for three regional championships, with the team placing as high as third in the national tournament. With her guidance, the team won a sportsmanship award at the NJCAA national championships. Matthews’ coaching prowess did not go unrecognized by her peers: She was named Region 19 Coach of the Year and GSAC Coach of Year four times each, and was runner-up for NSCAA National Coach of the Year. She was also presented with the Shore Conference Officials Sportsmanship Award. Following her tenure with the Vikings, Matthews served as the head coach of the women’s soccer team at Rider University from 1999 until 2003, and two years during that stretch, the team reached the conference finals. Matthews has also coached soccer and basketball at Monsignor Donovan High School and St. Joseph’s Grade School, and is current the head girls soccer coach at Manasquan High School. Toms River resident Matthews is the mother of two sons, both of whom attend Moravian College in Pennsylvania. Junior Graham, 20, runs track, while freshman Shamus, 18, competes for the soccer team.

Dom Alagia
Public Address Announcer: 1990’s - Present
Dom Alagia has been Ocean County College’s Public Address Announcer for men’s and women’s basketball games since the 1990s. He also served as the senior correspondent for “The Best Years,” an Ocean County College Channel 29 production, and works as a voice-over artist in television, movies, radio, and videos. Alagia has done commercial print work as well, appearing in ads for AARP, Verizon, Merck, Resorts International, Hershey Park, Vanguard, Time-Warner Books, and more. Over the years, he has received many awards, including the Army Football Club Meritorious Award, the WOBM Christmas Classic Jim Ruhnke Award, and induction into the New York Sports Hall of Fame and the Cliffside Park Wall of Fame. Alagia attended Cliffside Park High School, in Bergen County, and later settled in Toms River with his wife, Verna, after their children were grown. The couple was married 45 years before Verna passed away four years ago. Aside from sports, Alagia’s passions include music, movies, concerts, Broadway shows, a good restaurant, a quiet walk on the boards at the Jersey Shore, and his grandchildren and great-grandson.
Robert Czarniewski
Scoreboard Operator for Sporting Events: 1972 – 2015
Since 1972, Robert Czarniewski has been Ocean County College’s Scoreboard Operator for various sporting events. Czarniewski received a bachelor’s degree from Quincy University, in Illinois, then earned his master’s at Western Illinois University. He began his relationship with OCC as a basketball timer. Between 1974 and 1984, Czarniewski was the Community Swim Director, during which time he developed a swim program for children and taught swimming at the College. Czarniewski coached boys’ soccer at High School East in Toms River from 1979 to 2010, guiding the team to the New Jersey State Championship in 1985, while serving as Head Coach. In 1993, he was inducted into the Quincy University Hall of Fame, and, in 2005, he was inducted into the Toms River Athletic Hall of Fame.
Czarniewski was a resident of Ocean Gate and taught physical education at Island Heights Elementary School. On June 4, 2013, the Robert “CZ” Czarniewski Gymnasium was dedicated in appreciation of his 40 years of loyal, outstanding, and dedicated service to the students of Island Heights.
Mary Bellezza Gibson
Basketball: 1996 – 1998
After her graduation from Toms River High School North in 1996, Mary Bellezza Gibson began her studies at Ocean County College, where she earned her associates degree and starred for the basketball team. Gibson received the 1996-1997 Honorable Mention for All-American and the 1997-1998 Second Team All-American Award for Women’s Basketball, and, during that time, was also highlighted as “Ocean’s Own.” As Gibson noted, “My most memorable experience at OCC was playing basketball and enjoying a winning team that collectively had many accomplishments. My whole experience at OCC was wonderful and it was primarily because I made it what I wanted to make it. I met many wonderful friends, and have many memories that I will keep with me forever.” After OCC, Gibson received a bachelor’s degree in Public Health, with a concentration in Administration, and then earned a graduate degree in Health Administration from Jersey City University. She works as a County Municipal Alliance Coordinator for the Ocean County Health Department and is also an adjunct professor in the Health Sciences Program at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. Gibson resides in Beachwood with husband Brady, two sons, and a dog.
Michael Kavanagh
Basketball: 1976 – 1978
Michael Kavanagh graduated from Point Pleasant Borough High School in 1976, earned a degree from Ocean County College two years later, and then, in 1980, graduated magna cum laude from Glassboro State College (now Rowan University). He attended law school at the University of Bridgeport School of Law, earning in his Juris Doctorate in 1985. Kavanagh was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1986, and currently works as a trial attorney for GEICO Insurance. While at OCC, Kavanagh was a starting center for the basketball team; in his two years as a Viking, he never missed a game. He was named Student Athlete of the Year and Most Valuable Player during his time as an OCC basketball player, and he served as captain of the team. He subsequently played basketball at Glassboro, both as a center and a forward. Kavanagh now lives in Brielle with his wife Annette, who also is a graduate of OCC, as is his sister Alice and his brother Matthew. The couple has three sons, one of which attends Rutgers University, while the other two are students at Manasquan High School. Kavanagh lists cars and boating as interests.
Karen Geiger Trump
Soccer and Basketball: 1997 – 1999
Coach: 2003 - 2010
Karen Geiger Trump received her degree from Ocean County College in 1999. During her time as a Vikings soccer and basketball player, Trump broke the school record for goals in a single season and career points. She was Rookie of the Year for both sports in 1997, earned NJCAA
All-American honors in soccer for 1997 and 1998, and was selected as Most Valuable Player and NJCAA All-American for basketball in 1998. She was also the Most Valuable Player and All-State NJCBCA for basketball in 1998 and 1999. Trump later coached soccer and basketball at OCC, where she was named Region XIX Coach of the Year four times, and was awarded District Coach of the Year honors in 2008. She also holds the record for most wins by a soccer coach. With Trump at the helm, the Vikings were region champions for four years and district champions in 2008. She has received the Ben Johnson Award, the Patrick Carroll Award, and the Rose M. Battaglia Award, and was named 2001 Jersey Shore Hall of Fame Athlete of the Year. Trump and her husband A. J., Director of Athletics at OCC, live in Beachwood with their three children. Trump is working toward certification to teach health and physical education, and is currently Director of the Beachwood Soccer Club Micro Program.

Craig Bessinger
Wrestling & Cross Country: 1974 - 1975
Craig Bessinger (Point Pleasant) graduated from OCC in 1975. He participated with the Viking Wrestling and Cross Country Teams (1974-1975), leading the Wrestling team to the Westchester Tournament Championship in 1974 by pinning his opponent in the finals and earning a 12-4 individual record that year. Bessinger concurrently came in 4th in the nation in sales of Cutco Cutlery both years at OCC winning Alcoa $1,000.00 scholarships each year. Currently he operates Bessinger Management Group based out of West Virginia, owning income property in five states.
Maggie Chussler McDuffee
Women's Soccer: 2004 - 2005
Maggie Chussler McDuffee (Brick) played on the Viking Women’s Soccer Team (2004-2005) being named a Captain in her second year, receiving an Athletic Scholarship, earning All American, All Region, and All Conference honors, along with being a nationally ranked leading goal scorer. Chussler McDuffee graduated in 2008 from The College of New Jersey with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Psychology and Criminal Justice. Presently, she is a Broker at Carolina One Real Estate in Charleston, SC.
Beth Root Ganley
Women's Soccer: 2004 - 2005
Beth Root Ganley (Toms River) played for the Viking Women’s Soccer Team (2004-2005) being named Captain in her second year, along with All Region and All Conference honors, Most Valuable Player, as well as receiving an Athletic Scholarship. Ganley attended Fairleigh Dickinson and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing in 2009. Presently, she is Director of Marketing for Ocean Orthopedic Associates in Toms River.
Andrew Hawtin
Men's Soccer: 2003 - 2004
Andrew Hawtin (Lanoka Harbor) played on the Men’s Soccer Team (2003-2004) earning All Region and All Conference honors. Hawtin went on to play and graduate from Division I Syracuse University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography. Presently, he works as a Business Development Manager for Juniper Networks.
Jennifer Nelson
Cross Country: 2009
Jennifer Nelson (Barnegat) graduated from OCC in 2010. As Captain, she ran with the Viking Cross Country Team earning All American, All Region, All Conference, All Academic, Female Athlete of the Year, Most Valuable Player, and Individual National Champion honors. Nelson earned a Bachelor’s degree from Monmouth University and a Doctor of Physical Therapy with Distinction from Stockton University. She presented research at the American College of Sports Medicine World Conference. Nelson is a Physical Therapist working in an outpatient orthopedic setting.
Brian Waldron
Men's Soccer: 2003 - 2004
Brian Waldron (Lanoka Harbor) graduated from OCC in 2005. He played on the Men’s Soccer’s Team (2003-2004). Waldron graduated in 2007 from Coastal Carolina University with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance with a minor in Accounting, and in 2010, he completed a second Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from Villanova University. Waldron is a Certified Public Accountant and works as an Audit Manager for Holman Frenia Allison, PC.
Kevin Waldron
Men's Basketball: 2005 - 2007
Kevin Waldron (Lanoka Harbor) graduated from OCC in 2007. He played for the Viking Men’s Basketball Team (2005-2007). While a student at OCC, Waldron maintained a 4.0 GPA and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa national honor society. He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina. He went on to complete a Master’s in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton. Waldron is Vice Principal of H&M Potter Elementary School in Bayville, NJ.
