OCC Esports Kicks Off 2020-21 Season

Toms River, NJ - OCC Esports launched their 2020-21 season in strong fashion on Tuesday (10/6) evening, picking up 3 wins against 1 loss on the night.

The Vikings, who are competing in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate this season, began play with a big win by team captain Jacob Leiva, who dispatched Montgomery County CC to the tune of 4-1. Leiva was nationally ranked in both singles and doubles play last season, and looks to be in the hunt for championships once more in 2020-21. Newcomer Luke Leonard followed Jacob's win with a 2-0 shutout against Bryant & Stratton College. Returning Vikings sophomore Brandon Carman took a tough 3-0 loss to Westchester Community College before Nick Bushell returned Ocean to the win column with a forfeit victory against Stratton College.

OCC Esports Head Coach John Ruhl was impressed by his team's performance in Week 1, and looked toward the future: "Luke Leonard is going to be a major player when the playoffs start. I'm hoping for the OCC vs. OCC finals that we almost got last season."

The Vikings return to play on Tuesday, October 13, at 6 p.m. Catch the action live via the team's Twitch channel, located here
