Toms River, NJ - OCC Vikings Baseball (6-4) put together their best performance of the season so far in a doubleheader sweep of nationally-ranked #6 Brookdale Community College (16-5) on Wednesday (3/29).
GAME 1: OCC battled back to score 4 runs in the seventh inning, collecting RBI singles from Eli McEwan, Alex Alonso, Devon Smith and Rian O'Rourke to secure the upset 4-3 win. Ocean sophomores Trevor Coltenback and Cristian Corsione, and freshmen Devon Smith, Rian O'Rourke, Donnie Kirk, and Colin Matuschat all collected 2 hits apiece in the victory.
GAME 2: The Vikings exploded for 6 runs in the 5th inning as Ocean took game 2 by an 8-2 final score. Ocean freshman Shawn McNiff launched a deep home run, and was followed by RBI singles by Cristian Corsione, Devon Smith, and a 2-run single by Alex Alonso. Rian O'Rourke and Carl Barth both had multiple-hit games on the afternoon.
OCC sophomore pitchers Brian Yadlon (Game 1) and Dylan Wanagiel (Game 2) both pitched complete games to improve their respective records to 2-0.
The Vikings are back in action against Brookdale on Thursday, March 30, with the 3rd game of their 3-game series starting at OCC at 3 P.M.
