OCC Athletics Thanks NJCAA Region XIX's Sport Officials and Assignors

Toms River, NJ - The Ocean County College Athletic Department is joining with NJCAA Region XIX in gratefully recognizing our sport officials and assignors.

They don’t make the headlines, their names are not in the box scores, and they don’t make the all-star teams, but perhaps the most important individuals in sports are the contest officials. Simply put, there would be no organized competitive sports without the men and women across the country who officiate these contests.

"The relationship between athletic staff and officials of all sports (including assignors) has always been strong and supportive, states OCC Executive Director of Athletics, Ilene Cohen. “No matter the call, all parties have the best interest of the game and student-athletes in mind. I have the utmost respect for those who come to Viking country to allow our students the opportunity to enjoy the game. I’m not sure when retirement will be for me, but I hope to continue to enjoy the game as an umpire/official in the future.”

We encourage current and former Region XIX student-athletes to get involved in officiating. Individuals interested in learning more about becoming an official, and even beginning the application process, can do so at www.SayYestoOfficiating.com  (https://www.sayyestoofficiating.com/become-a-sports-official/).
