OCC Baseball Sweeps Salem CC, Extends Win Streak to 4 Games

Toms River, NJ - OCC Baseball extended their win streak to 4 games following a doubleheader sweep versus the visiting Mighty Oaks of Salem Community College on Monday (4/24). 

GAME 1: OCC sophomore Dylan Wanagiel struck out 4 and allowed 6 hits over 7 innings to pick up the complete game win as Ocean topped Salem, 5-4. Freshman designated hitter Shawn McNiff blasted a triple in the bottom of the 2nd inning that electrified the home crowd, but it was the 4th inning that was most productive for Ocean, as freshman 3rd baseman Rian O'Rourke and sophomore catcher Trevor Coltenback each hit run-scoring singles. 

GAME 2: Trevor Coltenback, now moved to 1st base for game 2, blasted a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 3rd inning, and a 2-run double in the bottom of the 4th as Ocean dropped Salem for a 2nd time, 7-2. OCC freshman pitcher Aidan Gallipoli went the distance from the mound, allowing 6 hits in the win. Freshman left fielder Donnie Kirk drove in a run with a double in bottom of the 4th, while DH Shawn McNiff sent a runner home in the 5th with a sacrifice fly, as the Vikings pulled up to an 8-8 record in Region 19 play. 

The Vikings return to the field on Wednesday, April 26, when they travel to RCSJ Cumberland for a doubleheader versus the Dukes, beginning at 1:30 P.M.
