Toms River, NJ - OCC Men's Basketball snapped a 3-game losing streak and earned their 12th win of the season in a 84-79 defeat of the RCSJ Cumberland Dukes on Tuesday (2/7).
Ocean freshman guard Dallas Weisse led Vikings' scoring with a 19-point night, of which 15 were earned via three-point shots. Weisse is in the midst of an impressive season, averaging 12.4 points per game, and is seemingly always ready to drop 3 points in when needed most. Freshman forward Jared Cohen also made his presence felt, contributing a season-high 18 points off the bench. Cohen, a midseason pickup from Forked River, NJ, shot 7-for-10 from the field tonight, and pulled in 6 rebounds in this important GSAC/Region 19 win. Sophomore guard/forward Ethan Paul scored 16 and grabbed 7 boards in 28 minutes of action, while sophomore Josh Kline fired off 12 assists and brought in 8 rebounds in the winning effort.
"Very hard fought game, in which we were fortunate to come out on top," remarked OCC Men's Basketball Head Coach Patrick Boylan. "Jordan Cohen rose to the occasion when his number was called, and helped us mightily with 18 points off the bench. Great to see reserves stay ready and prepared for their opportunity. Cohen has been outstanding in practice, and I'm happy to see his efforts translate to the game. As always, we still have much to improve upon, but it was an important and much needed win."
Next up for the Vikings is a trip to nationally-ranked Brookdale Community College on Thursday, February 9 for a 5 P.M. matchup versus the Jersey Blues.
