OCC Men's Basketball Takes Down Union at the Buzzer, 77-76

Toms River, NJ - OCC Men's Basketball earned their 2nd win in their last 3 games following a come-from-behind, 77-76 home win versus the Union College Owls on Thursday (12/7).

After losing a lead early in the contest, the Vikings found themselves playing catch-up through most of this matchup, coming close, but not quite taking back control from an aggressive Owls squad. Down by 8 to start the 2nd half, Union built a comfortable 14-point lead at one point before the Vikings came storming back, powered by crucial defensive stops and momentum-shifting scoring. Ocean sophomore guard Kai Messeroll's 3-pointer brought the Vikings to within 1 with less than 4 minutes left, and after attempting to pull away once more, OCC freshman guard Brian Starrett's 2 free throw points with just 34 seconds on the clock left the score 76-75 in Union's favor. A subsequent unsuccessful offensive possession by Union set the stage for Ocean, as sophomore guard/forward Kahlil Campbell received an inbound pass from Brian Starrett, taking 2 defenders into the paint before passing out to Dallas Weisse, whose 2-pointer as time expired ignited the OCC gymnasium, and sent the Vikings to the locker room with the 77-76 victory. Kahlil Campbell led Ocean scoring on the night, with 28 points and 6 rebounds in a win that called upon most of the Viking lineup to step up and secure it.

"Very important win. I'm incredibly proud of the resiliency we displayed in the 2nd half," recounted OCC Men's Basketball Head Coach Patrick Boylan. "Crucial defensive stops in the final stretch allowed us to have an opportunity to take this game. This was a true team effort with numerous players making significant contributions on both sides of the ball."

The Vikings return to action on Saturday, December 9, when they host Community College of Philadelphia in a 2 P.M. matchup.
