OCC Men's Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match Versus Brookdale, Northampton

Toms River, NJ - OCC Men's Volleyball hosted Brookdale Community College and Northampton Community College in a tri-match on Saturday (3/9), defeating both teams to secure sole possession of 1st place in Region 19.

MATCH 1: Ocean CC defeats Brookdale CC, 3-0

The Vikings moved past their 1st loss of the season by dispatching conference rival Brookdale CC in straight sets, 3-0. Ocean sophomore setter Tyler Iozzi had 30 assists in this match, and is ranked 2nd nationally with a 10.28 average per match in the category. OCC freshman outside hitter Danny Kejda blasted 10 kills and scored 14 points in the decisive victory (set scores: 25-17, 25-16, 25-13). 

MATCH 2: Ocean CC defeats Northampton CC, 3-1

Facing their toughest Region competition of the season, Ocean rose to the occasion to defeat the visiting Spartans of Northampton CC, 3-1. Tied for 1st place in Region 19 heading into this match, this was a heated battle for seemingly every point, with momentum swinging back and forth through all 4 sets. Four Vikings scored in double figures in this match, with Ocean freshman rightside hitter Steve Tapia having his best match of the season so far, with a 14.5 point, 12 kill, 7 dig performance, while Danny Kejda dropped 15 kills and 15 points in the win. Ocean freshman outside hitter Sam Barney followed up a 6 ace performance in the Vikings' match versus Brookdale with 11 points, 9 kills, and 5 digs in this one. This win was a true team effort. The Vikings finished with an overall record of 7-1, and sole possession of 1st place in the Region.

OCC Men's Volleyball returns to the court on Monday, March 11, when they host the Owls of Union College in a 6:30 P.M. matchup.
