#2 OCC Women's Soccer Upsets #1 RCSJ Gloucester to Win 2nd Straight Region 19 Championship!

Toms River, NJ - The #2 OCC Vikings Women's Soccer team upset #1 RCSJ Gloucester (5-4 in the PK round) on Saturday (10/28) to capture their 2nd consecutive Region 19 championship!

The Vikings arrived in Sewell, NJ determined to avenge the 3-0 loss they absorbed from the Runners in the regular season, and move forward. The teams battled through regulation and even past a 10-minute overtime period before deciding the contest on penalty kicks, with each team taking 6 shots, and Ocean winning, 5-4. Ocean sophomore goalkeeper Holly Applegate was named Defensive MVP, OCC freshman forward Taylor Lewis earned Offensive MVP honors, and Ocean's coaching staff of Breeana Cassidy (Head) and John Merklin (Assistant) were named Region 19 Coaching Staff of the Year upon the match's conclusion.

The Vikings will now advance to the NJCAA National Championship, scheduled to begin on November 7 at CaroMont Health Park in Gastonia, NC (Schedule TBA).
