Toms River, NJ - The three-time defending Region 19 champion OCC women's soccer team made their presence felt in their 2025 season opener, thrashing the visiting Owls of Union College of New Jersey, 9-0 on Saturday (9/6).
With extreme temperature approaching triple digits on Ocean's turf field, the Vikings scored early and often to dictate the pace, launching five unanswered goals in the match's first 16 minutes. Freshman midfielder/forward Hannah Puglisi struck first in minute one, converting a pass from sophomore forward Leilani Borges, and the team never looked back, with eight Vikings contributing scores. OCC freshman midfielder Kassie Doty scored 2 goals on the day and assisted on another, while sophomore midfielder Katherin Munoz scored a goal and supplied 2 assists in the win.
The Vikings will go for their 2nd win of the season on Saturday, September 13, when they welcome RCSJ Gloucester to campus for a 12pm match that is being billed as part of the "NJ Women's College Soccer Cup," a tournament held among the Region's elite to determine bragging rights (and hoist the inaugural trophy) as the best 2-year program in the state.
