Toms River, NJ - OCC Women's Volleyball traveled to Union College for their 2024 season opener on Wednesday (8/28) and took down the Owls, 3-1 to lock in the victory.
The Vikings were slow to find their proverbial footing in this match, falling behind and appearing to be overwhelmed in a 1st set that saw them fall to Union, 25-8 before they regrouped to take the next 3 sets by 25-17, 25-20, and 25-10 tallies.
Ocean sophomore outside hitter Claudia Cosme led the Vikings' scoring effort, with 14 points and 12 kills, while sophomore libero Anna Malandro pulled out 15 digs in the victory. Cosme and Malandro, who both earned All-Region 19 and All-Garden State Athletic Conference Team honors last season, will be key components as Ocean looks to follow up a 2023 season in which the team posted an 18-3 record.
The Vikings will next return to their home court to host the Buccaneers of Atlantic Cape CC on September 4 at 6:30 P.M.
