#2 OCC Women's Basketball Falls to #1 Passaic County CC, 79-72 in Region XIX Championship Final

Toms River, NJ - #2 Ocean County College Women's Basketball fell to the top-ranked Panthers of Passaic County Community College in the Region XIX Championship final, by a 79-72 final score.

Ocean freshman Allie Toth continued her stellar postseason play, turning in an 18-point performance that led the scoring attack for the Vikings, while freshman Haley Ocskasy contributed 16 points in the loss. The Panthers succeeded in slowing sophomore Shaunna Bruker's offensive production, limiting Ocean's leader to 9 points, breaking her 24-game, season-long streak of double-doubles. Bruker pulled down 22 rebounds on the afternoon, further solidifying her status as the national leader in the category

The Vikings established a fast pace early in the game. Aided by Ocean sophomore Molly Collins's game-leading 7 assists, the Panthers and Vikings traded leads through the first half, until Ocean mounted an attack that saw them leading in the 3rd quarter by as much as 19 points. It would not last, as a series of inbound Panther steals/conversions and the fouling out of Bruker seemed to swing momentum into Passaic's favor, who capitalized and held on to the lead until the end.

Ocean completes their 2019-20 campaign with a 20-5 record, and with a nucleus of outstanding freshmen, the team will look to compete at the highest level next season.
