Toms River, NJ - OCC Women's Basketball secured their 2nd win of the season with an epic, 86-83 triple overtime victory at Bergen Community College on Thursday (11/21).
Ocean freshman guard Brooke Schmidt was an unstoppable force on both ends of the court tonight, scoring 43 points to go along with 20 rebounds and 6 steals, while freshman Tatiana Hernandez scored a season-high 24 points in this hard-fought win.
Sophomore Shabiah McBrayer returned to the Viking lineup for her 1st game of the season and made an immediate impact, scoring 7 points and pulling in 12 rebounds and 4 steals.
"It was a battle royale and a true testament of grit and heart," reflected OCC Women's Basketball Head Coach Sarah Porter. "The girls dug deep to pull out the win, especially with some in major foul trouble and one returning from injury. Brooke had 40-plus, Tatiana 24. Shabiya made a big bucket, Clairissa was tremendous on the boards when we needed it. Jill was bodying people and had a big steal and block. Jenna was a huge part of the mix, helping to shut down two 6-foot threats and keep us energized. Ashanti was a great paint-hunter and helped to create chaos on defense."
The Vikings will return to action on Saturday, November 23, when they travel to Community College of Philadelphia for a 12 P.M. tip off versus the Lions.
