Vikings Fall to Brookdale CC, 3-2 in 1st Round of Region XIX Playoffs

Toms River, NJ - Vikings Women's Soccer (8-7) ended their regular season with a thrilling 3-2 win against local conference rival Brookdale Community College, and as fate (and seeding) would have it, crossed paths with them just four days later, in the first round of the NJCAA Region XIX playoffs. Unfortunately, the pendulum swung the Jersey Blues' way this time, as the Vikings lost 3-2, ending their postseason run. Brookdale broke the scoreless tie early, with Madison Doria picking up a goal in the match's 3rd minute, to establish an early 1-0 lead. The Vikings' newly-voted All-GSAC and All-Region XIX defender Kristyn Adams evened the score 31 minutes later, with an unassisted goal that stirred up the already raucous home crowd. 7 minutes into the 2nd half, the Jersey Blues retook the lead, with Christine Albano firing in Brookdale's 2nd goal of the game. The score remained 2-1 until Ocean's Brielle Morella landed the equalizer (assisted by Adams) in the 65th minute. Then with just 5 minutes remaining in the match, Brookdale's Madison Doria scored her second goal of the day, sealing the win and advancing the Jersey Blues to the Region XIX Playoff Semifinals.

It was a season of shutouts (both for and against), overtime battles and hard-fought victories. Congratulations to Coach Ritter and the Vikings for a great 15 games.
