Toms River, NJ - Ocean County College Women's Soccer (1-3) picked up their first win of the season in a 9-1 drubbing of visiting Bergen Community College. The teams were deadlocked in a scoreless tie until Ocean freshman Megan Covert scored an unassisted goal in the 26th minute. The Vikings would never look back, adding 8 more unanswered goals (2 each from Crystal Guthrie and Kristyn Adams, 1 from Alexis Novotny, Grace Guthorn, Kristen Doss, as well as another goal from Covert) before Bergen broke the shutout with a goal via free kick in the match's 75th minute.
OCC Vikings Head Coach Jenn Ritter was pleased with the team's performance. "The ladies played hard and are continuing to get better and better," she remarked. "Everyone played well, and we are seeing so many people step up and play hard."
The Vikings return to action on Tuesday, September 11 when they host Cumberland County College for a 4 p.m. conference matchup.
