Toms River, NJ - Ocean County College freshman Jessica Smith scored a goal in the 51st minute which stood the test of time, as Ocean County College's #1-seeded women's soccer team defeated the #4 Jersey Blues of Brookdale Community College, 1-0, to capture the 2022 NJCAA Region XIX North Atlantic A Championship.
The Vikings' concentrated offensive effort coupled with slalwart defensive play was the difference maker in this match, as the Vikings outshot the Blues 13-4 on the day.
Following the match's conclusion, OCC's Juliana Rettino and Jessica Smith won respective 2022 Region XIX Outstanding Offensive and Defensive Players awards, and OCC Head Coach Breanna Cassidy was named Region XIX Coach of the Year.
Ocean will now move on to compete in the 2022 NJCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship tournament, to be held at Wehrum Stadium in Herkimer, NY from November 9-13.
