OCC Golf Posts Best Team Score of Season at GSAC Championship

Toms River, NJ - Ocean County College Golf had their best day of the season when it counted the most, putting to a season-low 403 at the 2024 Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) championship, contested at Flanders Valley Golf Course in Morris County. Ocean Co-Captain Tommy Donachy led the Vikings, making a birdie and carding his season's low score of 95, with fellow co-captains and second-year starters Logan Burnett and Jeremy Schiel chipping in with scores of 100 and 103, respectively, at the County College of Morris' home course. First-year player Jared Schworn contributed with his season-best 18-hole round, driving Flanders' white and blue nines to a solid 104.

"The boys put on their best showing of the season," said OCC Head Golf Coach Sean Fawcett. "We're starting to play our best golf at the time of the year when it matters the most, the playoffs. Hopefully we'll be able to play even better, at the Regions on May 13 and 14."

The NJCAA Region 19 Championship, which will return to Union County's Ash Brook Golf Course in Scotch Plains, tees off at 12:00 P.M. on Monday, May 13, with the tournament's 2nd round going off at 9:00 A.M. on May 14. Burnett recorded his best round ever, and the team's season-low 18 of 88 at Ash Brook on April 15. A two-round total of 174, or two round of 87, qualified for the NJCAA DIII from the 2023 Individual Qualifiers at last year's Region 19 Championship.

The NJCAA D-III National Championship will be contested at New York's Lake Chautauqua Golf Club in Lake Chautauqua, NY from June 2-5. "Logan and Tommy have very good shots at qualifying individually at Ash Brook," said Fawcett. "If they can shoot the scores they're both capable of doing, they will definitely be in contention. We're looking forward to the opportunity."
