OCC Golf Places Top 5 at Galloping Hill

Toms River, NJ - The Ocean County College Golf Team is driving it down the fairway. Shooting a season-low 414, the OCC Vikings, led by second year starters and team co-captains Logan Burnett, Tommy Donachy and Jeremy Schiel have the team headed in the right direction. Burnett led the way, firing a solid 97 Monday at Union County College's tournament at Galloping Hill in Kenilworth. Struggling out to a Front Nine 53, Burnett birdied the final two holes after a par four at the 16th to finish with a Back Nine tally of 44. Schiel, meanwhile improved 9 strokes from last week's home tournament at LBI National in Little Egg Harbor to break 100 for his first time for OCC, chipping in one shot behind Burnett. First year players Jared Schworn and Jack Iovine contributed to the Vikings 4th place team showing. RCSJ Gloucester won the tournament with a 4-man low of 334, while Union College's Patrick Murray claimed individual honors with a +1 round of 72 with two biridies.

"We took a step in the right direction today," reflected OCC Vikings Head Golf Coach Sean Fawcett. "I'm so very happy for Jeremy shooting his 98. Logan's par-birdie-birdie finish was really impressive. We look forward to taking a few more steps ahead next week at Flanders Valley."

OCC will next take on host County College of Morris, RCSJ Gloucester, Union, Raritan Valley CC, RCSJ Cumberland, and Lehigh Carbon CC on Monday, April 8 at Flanders Valley Golf Course in Flanders, NJ, the site of this year's Garden State Athletic Conference Tournament (scheduled for May 1). Tee times start at 12:00.
