Gavin Dougherty, a former standout from Southern Regional High School, scored the game winner in the second overtime period Thursday to propel the Ocean County College Mens Soccer team past Union County College in a tough Region 19 matchup.
In the 104th minute, OCC forwards Doug Jensen and Jeff Arevalo got in behind the Union defense and went in on goal. After Arevalo's shot was saved by Union's Goalkeeper Fredy Pena, Dougherty pounced on the rebound, firing it past the goalkeeper into the net for the game winner.
This marks the Vikings seventh Region 19 victory this season.
The Vikings outshot the Owls 24-16 and Goalkeepers Bryan Jones and Nick Hund made 3 and 7 saves respectively.
The Vikings will be back in action Saturday, October 1st when they host Sussex County College at 12noon at Ocean County College Stadium.
