OCC Women's Volleyball Shuts Out Middlesex in Season Opener, 3-0

Toms River, NJ - The Ocean County College women's volleyball team launched their 2023 season on the road, and shut out the Colts of Middlesex College, 3-0, to earn the win.

The Vikings, who finished 12-6 overall last season, showed the grit and toughness that defined them in 2022 in this first match, taking down Middlesex by 25-11, 25-23, and 25-9 final set scores. Freshman Claudia Cosme led the Ocean effort with 13 kills and 16 points, while sophomore team captain Madison Partenfelder's 29 assists kept the momentum in Ocean's favor throughout the match.

"It was a great start to the season," reflected OCC Women's Volleyball Head Coach Alexis Whitney. "In sets 1 and 3, we had strong serve-receive, particularly by Claudia and Anna. Overall, there was a lot of energy and good teamwork. Madison had an amazing assist game. We were tested in the 2nd set, but came back swinging."

The Vikings return to action on Tuesday, September 5, when they welcome Brookdale Community College to campus for a 7 P.M. Region 19 matchup.
