Toms River, NJ - OCC Women's Volleyball (5-1) bounced back strongly from their 1st loss of the season to Raritan Valley CC on Monday (9/12) to return the favor to Region 19 #1 Union College on Wednesday (9/13), sweeping the Region 19 #1 Owls, 3-0, to hand them their 1st loss.
The Vikings attacked Union from the outset, taking the 1st set 25-10 before the Owls regrouped and pulled in close in the 2nd. The teams traded match point in set #2 numerous times before Ocean pulled out the 29-27 win, and finally slammed the door shut with a 25-12 3rd set. OCC freshman Anna Malandro and sophomore Madison Partenfelder were a force on defense tonight, with 24 and 17 digs, respectively, while freshman (and GSAC Player of the Week) Claudia Cosme blasted 11 kills and 16 points in the decisive Ocean win.
"Our 1st and 3rd sets were great," exclaimed OCC Women's Volleyball Head Coach Alexis Whitney. "Good kill game by Claudia and Jordan. Solid defense and digs by Maddie and Anna M. Great ace game by Claudia again, and solid blocking game by Abbey."
The Vikings return to the court on Friday, September 15, when they travel to Passaic County Community College for a 6 P.M. match versus the Panthers.
