OCC Golf Finishes 4th at Flanders Valley

Toms River, NJ - The Ocean County College golf team continued its strong play of late, placing 4th in Monday's (4/10) County College of Morris Invitational at Flanders Valley Golf Course, in Flanders, NJ. The Vikings filed their lowest four man total of the 2023 campaign so far, chipping in for 392, with birdies by Bryan Potter and Tommy Donachy. Potter and Donachy both birdied the red course's 135-yard Par 3 14th hole, with Donachy rolling in his bird from about 12 feet while Potter putted his one-under two from just a little outside a couple of feet after nearly ace-ing the hole. Donachy then went birdie-birdie on the par five 15th, to post a front 9 season's-best 41 before carding a solid 47 on the back nine gold course. Donachy's first sub-90 round of the year led the Vikings and placed in the top 10 individually. Team captain Matthias Heberling's 98 and Logan Burnett's 99, his lowest score of the season, rounded out the effort. Jeremy Schiel also participated in this match. The Vikings placed ahead of GSAC rivals Union College and Raritan Valley Community College for the 3rd time this season.

"We played good golf today, but more importantly got a very good look at the course we will play on the 26th when we return here for the Garden State Athletic Conference championship," said OCC Head Golf Coach Sean Fawcett. "We wanted to play well, and we did, but I told the fellas that we really wanted to get to know the course before the GSACs, which are more important to us to play our very best in. Tommy (Donachy) had his best round so far, and showed what kind of player we know he is. He's gaining confidence and should be a contender for top 5 honors as we get closer to playoff time."

OCC Golf returns to the links on April 17 at 12 P.M., when they compete at Ashbrook Golf Club in Scotch Plains, NJ, home course of Union College.
