Toms River, NJ - After winning their very first Region 19 tournament of the 2025 spring campaign, the Ocean County College golf team played solid in finishing 3rd overall out of 6 teams at County College of Morris' home torunament at Flanders Valley Golf Course on April 14. Shooting a season-high 4-man total of 350, the Vikings, coached by Sean Fawcett and Nick Forgione, placed behind reigning Region 19 champs, RCSJ Gloucester (329) and host CC Morris (342), but well ahead of RCSJ Cumberland (395), Raritan Valley CC (402) and UCNJ (412) for 3rd.
Rocco Scarabino led the way for the Vikings, carding a solid and consistent 18-hole total of 82 (41-41), with teammates Josh Hybbeneth and Daniel Sicknick following up with solid rounds of 84 and 85 each. Maxx Agnello and Jimmy Borowski also chipped in, with fellow 1st year teammates Brayden Anhorn, Justin Lamicella and Dallas Weisse also contributing.
"It was a tough, but not disappointing, day for the team," remarked OCC Head Coach Fawcett. "This was the very first time any of the Vikings ever got to play Flanders Valley, so it was a good learning experience for them, heading in to the GSAC tournament in two weeks at the very same course."
"Additionally, it was encouraging to know that we're more than capable of finishing, and realistically, place 2nd, with a very good chance to win, against our Region 19 competition this year, and on the road, which is where all the rest of our tournaments, including the GSACs here, and the Regions (May 12 and 13) at UCNJ's Ash Brook Golf Course," continued Coach Fawcett. "There were many positives in playing, basically, our "B game" early in the season. I am strangely encouraged by the result, and very, happy with the camaraderie and team/school spirit, love of the game, and intensity of effort that all these guys, individually, and collectively, play with. They represent themselves and OCC extremely well, and are a lot of fun to be around. We're looking forward to the Region 19 warm up round at Ash Brook coming up."
