OCC Golf Claims 2nd at Running Deer

Toms River, NJ - Another day and yet another top 3 finish for the Ocean County College golf team. Shooting a very solid 4-man total of 345, Coach Sean Fawcett's Vikings took 2nd at RCSJ Cumberland's home golf tournament at Ron Jaworski's Running Deer Golf Course by Parvin State Park near Elmer, NJ. Having won their season-opening home invitational at Seaview's historic Bay links on March 31, and 3rd at this past Monday's GSAC preview at County College of Morris' Flanders Valley Golf Club, OCC's golf team is flying into the 2nd half of their 2025 campaign with confidence gained through valuable experience.

OCC freshman Rocco Scarabino led the squad with 2 birdies and a 2nd place individual showing of 83 (40-43). Fellow Ocean freshman Josh Hybbeneth carded 3 more birdies for an 18-hole total of 86. First year player Jimmy Borowski also played well, battling the 40 MPH gusting winds and cold at Running Deer, host of last summer's local USGA US Open qualifier with an 84. Dallas Weisse chipped in a 92 for the team's 345 total, which placed the Vikings just 10 strokes behind Rowan College South Jersey's 335, but ahead of both County College of Morris and host Cumberland. Maxx Agnello and teammates Jordan Cook and Danny Sicknick also participated.

"I know the team's a little disappointed by not scoring their best, but the winds and the 40 degree-like temperatures and sloping, slick greens made it very hard for everyone out there" stated Coach Fawcett. "Eighty two was the lowest score today. Nobody broke 80. Rocco's 2nd place finish was just a single shot from a tie for first. Under those circumstances and playing in those conditions, I think Rocco, and all the guys, should be very, very proud."

Next up for OCC is the Region 19 rehearsal at Union College of NJ's Ash Brook Golf Club in Scotch Plains, NJ on April 21.

"This will be a terrific opportunity for our squad to learn the course, which none of them have ever played before, a couple of weeks before the all-important, and season-ending Region 19 Championship. We're already sort of establishing ourselves as Region 19's second best team so far, but we're not very far off from maybe winning it all. It's a 2-team race at this point and we're looking like we have a serious shot and are definitely ready for the opportunity."
