Women's Soccer Come Up Short in Penalty Kicks After 110 Minutes of 2-2 Soccer

Toms River, NJ - Women's Soccer played a hard fought game against Rowan College at Gloucester County at Snyder Avenue Park in Berkley Heights this past Saturday.  The team fought hard taking the lead in the 46th minute on a beautiful goal by Melissa Fichtner off of an assist by Justine Mangiafico.  The Roadrunners would tie the score up only to see Fichtner slip in behind the defense on a beautifully slotted ball from Jenna Wallace to put the Vikings up 2-1.  RCGC tied the game up again at 2-2 in the 71st minute.  The score would remain this way though regulation and two ten minute overtime periods.  The game was determined by a penalty kick shootout.  RCGC defeated the Vikings 3-1 in the shootout to earn a spot in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament November 12th to 15th.

The Vikings had an outstanding season, being nationally ranked throughout.  The team finishes with a 12-3-2 record on the year and five players were named to the All-Region XIX and four to the All-GSAC teams.
