Toms River, NJ - In what proved to be a very physical game, the Ocean County College women's soccer team proved too tough for visiting Raritan Valley Community College, defeating them in a 2-1 final. The Vikings maintained possession all game long, peppering Raritan Valley goalkeeper Johanna Sailema with 21 shots on goal, as Alexis Novotny (assisted by Brielle Morella) and Lexi Urban (assisted by Crystal Caruso) found the back of the net to put the Vikings up 2-0 after one half of play. The Golden Lions' Catherine Doyle launched a long-range shot on goal in the 76th minute that eluded OCC's GK Fiona Borrelli, breaking the shutout. The goal ended up as the only shot on goal taken by Raritan Valley CC in the contest.
The Vikings' victory improves their record to 5-3 (3-2 in GSAC) as they head to Rowan College at Gloucester County on Thursday, September 28 at 4 p.m. for their next conference match.
