OCC Golf Launches 2022-23 Season with 4th Place Finish at LBI National

Toms River, NJ - The 2022-23 Region 19 golf season teed off successfully on Monday (3/20), and the Ocean County College Vikings are down the fairway. Led by 10th place finishes by 1st and 2nd clubs Thomas Donachy and Matthias Heberling, the host Vikings placed Top 5 with a fine 4th place showing at the beautiful LBI National Golf and Resort golf course in Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

Donachy, a 1st-year player from Central Regional High School, and Heberling, the lone returner from Ocean's 2021-22 golf team, carded 94s, with Donachy's one-putt eagle-2 from just 12 feet on the 310-yard par 4 3rd hole highlighting the afternoon for the locals. Newcomers Logan Burnett and Jeremy Schiel contributed to the Vikings' cause along with fellow first-year players Bryan Potter and Nick Marinelli.

RCSJ Gloucester won the event with a low 4-player total score of 350, taking down County College of Morris, which finished 2nd with a tally of 367. Camden County College's Brian Madden took home 1st place honors with a terrific 7-over-par total of 79.

"Scoring was really tough out there," said OCC's Head Golf Coach Sean Fawcett. "It was a battle all day for everyone. All in all it was a pretty good day, and especially for the 1st time out and for the very 1st time getting to actually play 18 holes all season, so far. We finished just 11 strokes, barely 3 shots per man, out of 3rd Place and we can play way better. It's something to build on. We're looking forward to trying again in 2 weeks at Galloping Hill Golf Club."
