OCC Golf Places 3rd at GSAC Championship; Advances to Region 19 Tournament

Toms River, NJ - Carding a low four-man total of 397 yesterday, the Ocean County College golf team placed 3rd at the Garden State Athletic Conference Championship at Flanders Valley Golf Course. Beating both Raritan Valley and Union County, and behind only RCSJ Gloucester (340) and host County College of Morris (350), the Vikings played well with first club Tommy Donachy and team captain Matthias Heberling chipping in with rounds of 94 and 97, respectively. Additionally, Logan Burnett, Bryan Potter, and Jeremy Schiel all played well, turning in rounds of 100, 107, and 117 as Ocean gears up for it's final regular season match at Pitman GC (hosted by RCSJ Gloucester) on Monday (May 1).

"We didn't play our best today, but we played well enough to secure 3rd place for the 2nd consecutive year," said OCC Golf Head Coach Sean Fawcett. "Putting was particularly tough on the aerated greens. Everyone was pretty frustrated. Congrats to Gloucester on their beating Morris. It's the first time, I think, Morris has lost the GSAC team title in about ten years."

Ocean's season will end with the 2-day, 2 round Region 19 Championship, scheduled for May 15-16 at Union County's Ash Brook Golf Club in Scotch Plains, NJ.

"Our goal all season has been to play our best golf when Regions come," said Fawcett. "All year we've been trending up. Our play is getting better every day. I am very proud of our team. Looking forward to another good showing Monday at Pitman Golf Course."

OCC Golf returns to the links on Monday, May 1, when they travel to Pitman GC (hosted by RCSJ Gloucester) to compete in their last match before the Region 19 championship tournament.
